The Feng Shui Forum:
Feng Shui for the New Year

by Joani Nunez

1999! Here we are, poised at the threshold of another New Year! There’s a little thrill of excitement that always comes up for me at the close of one year and beginning of the next. Actually, this happens several times a year for me because I celebrate Diwali, or Indian New Year in October, our New Year in January, and then the Chinese New Year as well. I also count my own birthday as another New Year. I think there’s a special kind of power and energy that exists with the New Year, so I believe you can’t have too many of them!

This particular New Year is a great time for practicing your inner Feng Shui as well as outer Feng Shui. You might want to review the year that’s just passed and make several lists. One is for listing the things that you’ve accomplished, the victories that you’ve achieved, the miracles you’ve experienced, and the sweet moments that you’ve enjoyed. I call this my Gratitude List, and there’s nothing too small, insignificant, or silly to list here. I can spend an entire day, or more, on the Gratitude List.

There are some amazing things about the practice of gratitude. When we focus on gratitude, we take nothing for granted. Everything falls into the category of wonderful. A natural delight arises from within. And the more we are grateful for, the more good flows to us. We then become an incredible magnet for joy and “luck.” Actually, gratitude is a daily practice and a state of consciousness. It’s just great fun to sit and make a list of a year’s worth of wonderful! I suggest sharing this list with someone who can appreciate it, and then tucking it away in some place that’s sacred to you.

The next list is a review of lessons learned, and those that are still in progress. On this list I include the areas of my life, or experiences I’ve had, that I’m not through mastering. What would I do differently, how would I better handle something knowing what I know now, who do I need to make amends to? Off of this list come action points that help me complete unfinished business, which I then take care of as soon as possible. It’s not a great idea to drag this stuff into the New Year.

And finally, I examine my life purpose once again. Why am I here, what have I come here to work on, what are the things I’ve come here to do? In the face of this review, I set my goals for the New Year. This keeps me from wasting my time, energy, and focus on things that are essentially unimportant, or that are distractions. It keeps me aligned with my higher purpose and my Higher Self. It sets the vibration of what I’m creating for the New Year. It anchors my Vision, magnetizing it to me. I make several copies of this list and display them in prominent (to me) places.

External Feng Shui for New Year reflects the inner. It’s great to go through all of your belongings and get rid of anything that no longer brings you joy, or that you don’t use. This is in addition to cleaning out and organizing any drawers, closets, cabinets or rooms (i.e. garages) that have become cluttered during the year. Clutter, dirt, and disorganization create sha chi, which is harmful to our well being. In the packet of information that I send out to clients to help them prepare for their Feng Shui consultation, this is one of the first things listed. It makes a huge difference.

When you have your space physically clean and organized, then go through and do some form of space clearing. There are many versions of space clearing, Feng Shui and otherwise. For a wide range of options on this one practice, you might want to pick up Denise Linn’s wonderful book, Sacred Space, which is a collection of powerful space clearing techniques from around the world. Once your space is squeaky clean, you can readjust or replace the cures that have created your desired outcome with more powerful versions.

Finally, there is a series of three Black Hat Feng Shui cures that I do for the New Year. Because this school of Feng Shui requires red envelopes in exchange for its mystical cures, I’m not able to write them out in detail here. If you have an interest in these cures, you’re welcome to contact me and we can discuss how to proceed. I hope that 1999 is a glorious year for you. I’m looking forward to it with excitement and delight. I can’t wait to see how it unfolds!

And so, until next month, many blessings and much happiness. Please feel free to fax me at 713-861-9243, e-mail me at joani@wt.net, or call me at 713-861-0903 with your questions, feedback, or personal experience. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
