1999 Internet New Years Resolutions

by Marilyn Ellis

Have you made your New Years Resolutions yet? If you have not visited Internet yet, 1999 is a good time to get started.

Here are some Internet resolutions for you to add to your New Years Resolutions list. There are three categories: 1) First Encounter, 2) Internet User, and 3) Becoming a Webmaster, so you can pick one that suits you.

1. First Encounter
 • I will go to the library or a college this year and I will visit the Internet.
 • I will go over and see my friend’s computer, like he/she’s been bugging me to do.
 • I will ask someone to help me get started, and not just sit there looking at it this time.
 • I will visit Indigo Sun’s web site, look in the Index for all the spiritual organizations and services that are available (www.indigosun.com).
 • I will dare to punch the button called “Search,” and go find out about some subject I am curious about.
 • I will visit a foreign country on the Internet.
 • I will find something about the planets, and visit the NASA site (www....)
 • I will bookmark all the interesting sites I find.
 • I will visit Indigo Sun’s web site, and look at all the back issues (www.indigosun.com).
 • I will save or print out a file I found on Internet.
 • I will save a picture I find by right mouse clicking it.
 • If all else fails, I will get therapy for my cyberphobia!

2. Internet user
 • I will get a computer of my own with a fax modem.
 • I will dare to whip out my credit card and buy some socks (or pajamas, or something else) on Internet.
 • I will search the web for good deals on airline tickets.
 • I will send a page I like via e-mail to a friend.
 • I will search for a new car on the Internet.
 • I will buy a book on the Internet.
 • I will find out the latest statistics on the stock market.
 • I will search for toys for my grandchildren.

3. Becoming a Webmaster
 • I will bite the bullet and find out how to start a web site.
 • I will take a course in HTML code (or at least buy HTML for Dummies).
 • I will launch my business on the web this year.
 • I will set things up so people can buy things by credit card at my web site.

And there you have it — 1999 Internet New Years Resolutions that span levels of expertise. Feel free to pick and choose what fits you best, and add these Internet Resolutions to your 1999 New Years Resolutions. By the way, you can find information on the Internet about the other resolutions you made as well.
If you come up with an Internet New Years Resolution that I left off, please feel free to email me and let me know what it is (see e-mail address below).

As a final thought, had you considered that this is the last year of the old millennium? Next year, a new millennium begins. What would you like to see happen with Internet in the next thousand years? What about voice connections, similar to telephone? It exists. What about television hookup where you can see the person you are talking to? It exists. What about voice e-mail for the blind and handicapped? It exists. Internet connections are limited only by human imagination, and it will be and continue to be just what we decide.

And most of all, Have a Happy New Year in 1999!
