The Ancient Art Of Dowsing

by Robert Hirschfield

Dowsing is an ancient art dating back thousands of years. Paintings on cave walls depicted dowsers finding underground water with forked sticks. It even seems that Moses of the Bible was a “Water Diviner.” The need to find water has always been a strong instinct with man, and he has always lived near water for his survival.

Dowsing is a fascinating practice that is easy to learn and a person does not need to have any particular abilities, only the desire to learn. When you dowse you increase your psychic abilities—many times you will know the answer before your instrument begins to move as you are focusing totally on the moment. Some of the many uses of dowsing:

The art of dowsing survived through the middle ages in Europe in spite of condemnations by the church and has enjoyed a strong resurgence today, especially with the new age movement. Dowsing as it relates to this movement though, is primarily with the psychic and health questions a person may have. It has been said that we already know everything about ourselves on the unconscious level, and dowsing is the tool of communication between our unconscious and conscious minds. If you think about it, the patient answers his/her own questions during psychoanalysis.

A dowser uses an instrument such as a pendulum, L-rod, Y-rod, etc. The dowser begins by “asking” the instrument to show him/her what a “yes”   answer is and also what “no” and “neutral” answers are. After establishing a program for  specific movements to mean yes, no, or neutral, a dowser can search for objects or any information he/she may want. Things can even be graded on a scale of 0-10, as some answers are not a definite yes or no. Our unconscious, higher self, seems to be able to access information beyond time and space. I personally find health-related dowsing to be quite accurate. Accuracy will vary between dowsers and increases with practice. Dowsers become totally aware of their environment—non-beneficial energies, electromagnetic radiations, toxic foods and beverages. By becoming aware of these things, the worst can be avoided or blocked. Have you ever felt something so strongly that you had a “gut feeling?” Your unconscious broke through.

Dowsing is fun, informative, educational, and can be learned with practice, awareness, and a working knowledge of its principles. Dowsing  tools can be purchased or made from items you already have in your home. For example, I know people who sometimes use their keychain as a pendulum. Dowsing, a skill, a state of mind, a mental-analytical tool that uses the mind and intuition, it connects the gap   between the thinking tools of logic and the feeling tools of imagination, and it’s fun!

The Lonestar Chapter of the American Society of Dowsers meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Lotus Chinese Restaurant, 4624 Dacoma, at 7:00 pm. Each meeting has a workshop and a guest speaker. For information on the Mid-West Dowsing Conference January 14-17, call 281-488-4297 or 1-800-594-0860.
