Astrology for a Mobile Society

Are you in the best location for what you want to do? Do you want to relocate, but don’t know where to move? Have you ever gone on a vacation and felt that you’d finally come home?

The planets are powerful forces in our lives and they affect every part of us in some way. Whether we are aware of this influence or not, it is still there. Astrology can help us identify and work consciously with this myriad of information.

Astro*Carto*Graphy is a form of astrology in which an interpreter can see, on a map of the earth, where all of the major planetary energies lie for an individual. It shows where each of the 10 planets of our solar system occupied a powerful position at the time of an individual’s birth. There arefour positions in a birth chart that are considered to be the most potent places a planet can occupy. These four positions are called the angles. They include the Ascendant, where the planets rise over the eastern horizon; the Midheaven, where they reach their highest point in the sky; the Descendant, where they set over the western horizon; and the Imum Coeli (Latin, meaning "lowest heaven"), where they reach their lowest point. If a planet occupies any of these angles in your birth chart, it will likewise appear on your Astro*Carto*Graphy Map as a solid line. These lines indicate the place a specific planetary energy will most directly manifest.

If there are no planets on the angles in your birth chart, this simply means that at the time and place you were born, none of your planets occupied any one of these four points. However, every planet did occupy each of these angles at some point on earth. Therefore, everyone will have the same number of lines on their Map; they will just be in different places around the globe.

Each of these angles manifests in four different ways: 1.) A planet on the Midheaven line will be associated with your career or social status. 2.) A planet on the Ascendant line is associated with who you are, your personality, and how people see you. 3.) On the Descendant, however, it will involve your relationships with others. As well, the energy of that planet often comes, or seems to come, to you through others. 4.) The planet on the IC (Imum Coeli) emphasizes your home, family, roots, subconscious. Considering there are four angles and 10 planets, each Map has 40 lines.

There is more to Astro*Carto*Graphy than just going to a particular planetary line and expecting to experience that energy. People respond differently to the same planetary lines depending upon how that particular planet is configured in their birth chart. Additionally, other factors must be considered, such as how they were raised, educated, etc. Different people have been socialized in different ways. What a majority of people may consider to be a desirable influence may not be so desirable for others. For this reason it is also important for the ACG interpreter to have a thorough knowledge of the birth chart.

The basic premise of ACG is that there are certain places on earth where each of us can fulfill our potential more readily. For most there are several places, each with varying degrees of potency, depending on how prominently that planet is configured in the birth chart.

The energy in each location is definitely different. For example, Shirley Maclaine found her destiny in Hong Kong under her Mercury/Ascendant line. It was there she read a book that ultimately changed her life. She reported in an interview for Body, Mind and Spirit magazine that she usedAstro*Carto*Graphy to plan her center in Southern Colorado. The location was on her Moon/Neptune/Ascendant line. This line is not good for business ventures; however, it is excellent for intuitive capacities and would put her more deeply in touch with her vision, idealism, and message for society.

Another example is Martin Luther King, Jr., who became well-known as a preacher under his Jupiter/Ascendant line. Jupiter lines are strongly associated with religion, philosophy, education, international concerns.

Many people decide to use ACG when they have a particular goal they wish to achieve. Some want homes and families, while others want to excel in a particular career. A client with a recent degree in art was failing miserably in his career. He had done quite well in art school under his Sun Venus lines - two lines strongly suggesting artistic creativity - but had since moved to Houston. Houston was on a Saturn/Ascendant line for him. That line denotes restrictions and limitations. Upon discovering that he had left the location most obviously suited to his career, I suggested that he return. He informed me several months later that ACG caused him to make the best career move he has ever made. Another client using ACG went to college, graduated with honors and became a very successful international businessman, all under his Jupiter/Midheaven line.

Locations where you have prominent planetary lines will always, in some way, exemplify the meanings of that planet. Whether you consider it positive, negative, or somewhere in-between, the force of that planetary energy will prevail.
