GARDENING IN THE CITY

Soil Preparation, Part 3

This month we continue with our education on soil health. In earlier articles I stated that healthy soil grows disease, drought, and insect-resistant ornamental plants and food crops. All plants require minerals to be healthy. The standard over-the-counter fertilizer usually contains the minerals nitrogen, phosphorous, and potash (NPK). A standard fertilizer with a 13-13-13 NPK analysis may be fine for a few years; but to maintain a plant’s health you eventually must add trace minerals, such as iron, sulfur, magnesium, zinc, copper, molybdenum, germanium, gallium, chromium, and titanium, plus others in minute amounts.

All of these minerals are essential for healthy plants. This is especially true in producing food crops. Intensive farming using commercial agricultural fertilizers has serious reduced soil micro biologicals, which are the link between the mineral kingdom and the plant kingdom. Their job is to eat or chelate minerals and then expel them in a usable form that the plant can absorb. We must remineralize our soils, especially our food-growing soils, for healthy plants to thrive and to pass on these life-giving minerals to us and our food animals.

There is a new product available in the United States known as ECO-MIN. This product was thoroughly tested for a number of years in our country before being sent out for distribution to the general public. ECO-MIN remineralizes soil using a technological advancement which accelerates remineralization many times faster than the natural geological process. ECO-MIN supplies soil with over 40 elements, providing immediate long-term benefits. Top dressing with ECO-MIN corrects electron polarity, thereby helping to increase microbe activity and enhancing cation and anion exchange within the soil. It reduces leaching and lock up of water soluble fertilizers. This means significant savings in fertilizer cost. ECO-MIN delivers commercially and scientifically proven results, which have been independently tested and verified by field trials in the U. S., Europe, and Australia. I feel that anyone in food production, horticulture, or forestry can benefit from using this product.

In this same vein you might consider Gardenville’s vulcanite mineralizer. Malcolm Beck, the founder of Gardenville, has spent years perfecting this product. Check with your Gardenville center for more information on this fine product. Do your part to heal our mother planet as you heal your soil.
