People often ask me what I consider to be the most important Feng
Shui adjustment. Although each space is unique and will call for its own corrections and
enhancements, the very first thing I recommend is some form of space clearing, followed by
setting in place the external cures that deflect sha chi.
There are, of course, many kinds of space clearing. I favor a Black Hat Feng Shui clearing
called Yu Wai. I love this ceremony for several reasons. First because its
incredibly powerful. It clears away even the darkest and densest of energies. Sorrow,
depression, illness, violence, and death, are all are transmuted with this ritual.
It also releases what the Buddhists call hungry ghosts, discarnate
beings that are still in this realm and who need to move on. There is a world of
difference between a discarnate entity and a guide or teacher in spirit. A hungry ghost
will always, in some way, lower the energy and vibration of the place it inhabits, as well
as the people who live there. They can deplete an individuals health, negatively
influence emotions and addictions, and disrupt sleep patterns. Yu Wai moves them lovingly
into the light.
Ill often see sheets and layers gray energy peel off a place as I do this work.
After clearing away dark and heavy influences, this ceremony then establishes the seeds
and patterns for new beginnings. It doesnt just leave a blank and empty canvas. It
sets the new vibration. The other reason I love the Yu Wai adjustment is that its
performed outside, so in conjunction with clearing the home or business, it clears the
land, the entire site, as well.
The ritual closes with a blessing thats offered on behalf of the home and land and
the people who live there, then to the entire neighborhood, and then to the universe.
People report amazing and immediate results. They feel uplifted, some people see their
walls ripple as the energy shifts, or they see the air sparkle. Neighbors and
neighborhoods begin to change.
Not everyone lives in a space that allows a clearing ritual to be performed outside. Some
people live in condos or apartments, and many businesses prefer a more subtle approach. In
instances like these I use an equally powerful clearing thats done indoors, called
Tracing the 9 Stars.
Sometimes this one adjustment makes all the difference in the adjustments and cures that
follow. I liken it to pouring freshly ground and perfectly brewed coffee into your
favorite beautiful, clean coffee mug vs. into a cup thats half full of
yesterdays coffee and the dirty spoon from the cat food can. Its not going to
matter how fresh the cream or how delectable the sweetener, that second cup of
coffees always going to be just a little off!
Once the site has been completely cleared, then putting up the cures that keep it that way
are naturally what follow. A client shared with me this morning that she had been unable
to sleep in her new home until she put the mirrors in place that deflected the energy that
the street was channeling toward her bedroom. As soon as she put her mirrors up she was
able to sleep deeply and without interruption.
Getting your external protection in place is important for many reasons. We often have our
hands full with our own lives, we dont need the additional challenge of living in
our neighbors energies. Its also helpful to have an energetic boundary holding
back the sha chi of streets and busily traveled pathways and corridors. And, of course,
there are always those pesky secret arrows to contend with! Cures that deflect
and protect are incredibly helpful.
So as I mentioned earlier, each site is unique, and there are some sites that require that other things be immediately addressed. There are also places that have a very high vibration and dont necessarily require a Yu Wai adjustment. But overall, Id have to say from experience, that most spaces immediately and powerfully benefit from both clearing and protection. Theyre always the first adjustments I make when I move, and also when I travel.
