Communicating Around the Planet
by Marilyn Ellis

A Canadian who read my article, “The White Spider and the Internet”, sent me an email. In the article, I said that Spirit had a hand in the development of the Internet from the beginning, as is often the case when an entity (the Internet) is created for one thing (defense of this country, and cold war fear), but comes to serve a different purpose in time. The Internet does have the potential to put an end to the fear that created it in the first place by  breaking down the barriers between nations,      cultures, and people; but it is up to those who use it to make the difference.

The following email conversations that took place:

The Canadian’s email: “By the way, I’ve read some of your articles at Indigo Sun. You have a philosophy that I can’t say I share, but we are different kinds of people and that’s to be expected. I’ve never thought of the web as a union of souls.”

My answer: The Internet is not a union of souls? I met you on here. Also, people from all around the world see articles posted on web, and they can formulate perspectives about Texans (or more generally, Americans) not based on the 6 o’clock news.

Canadian: “I tend to think of it (Internet) in terms of nuts ‘n bolts… I doubt that I can change that. Now if you were to write about the theory that our spirits have a connection to another dimension (indeed, are PART of another dimension) and are in that way united, I could bring back past philosophies and follow you”.

My answer: Why do you assume it has to be just one way, and that something you can see, feel, hear, etc., is not spiritual, and that something you cannot see, feel or hear IS? I assure you, God has more all-inclusive ideas than this. Nothing is left out, because if it was, what would it be?

Canadian: “At one time I’d gotten into the meditation thing to an extent. Actually I’d tried to develop telekinetic abilities for some time and, not being able to do that, decided to try tele-transportation.”

My answer: Consider my articles to be for the ones of us (like MOST of us!) who have not developed telekinetic or tele-transportation abilities on our own either. Isn’t it neat to chat with someone from Egypt where the sun is just coming up, but it is setting here? Tele-transportation with a little help from some wires and satellites. What’s wrong with that?

Canadian: “It (Internet) is another means of communication, just like the telephone. It was started by the US Department of Defense in a version of a WAN (wide area network).”

My answer: I am very aware of ARPANET and that it was developed during the cold war, and was a means of defense.

Canadian: “I don’t feel any spirituality in it. In fact, I often enough see perversion in it.”

My answer: Yes, you are correct. Communication can be both profane and profound. According to Neale Donald Walshe, who wrote Conversations with God, ‘If you see God only in the profound, you are seeing only half the picture’.

Canadian: “And don’t talk to me about ‘psychic’.  That’s as much a buzz word of the 90’s as “interface.” Everyone and his/her uncle is a psychic.”

My answer: Everyone IS psychic (not A psychic). Most people seem to forget it, or it gets trained out of them.

If communication does not begin to take place between ordinary folks like me and the Canadian, nothing is going to change. We don’t have to agree on everything, but communicating has more potential for a positive outcome than not communicating. If more people would just stop, think, and communicate before acting, there would be a lot less fighting and a lot more peace on earth. Spirit would like that.
