Love is All There Is
Love is to fear as light is to darkness. If darkness is the absence of light, then fear is the absence of love. There have been times when I allowed myself a moment to go within to acknowledge the spiritual choice maker that is my Higher Self. Those moments have always contained a joyful certainty, a kind of knowingness that love is all there is. This knowingness is of a subjective nature, and, as such, transcends time and all things physical.
Yet, there is another aspect of me which operates in the physical universe, is tied to time, clings to past experience, and is apprehensive about the future. This aspect does not really understand how Love could be all there is. Rather, it perceives a universe which is filled with the opposing forces of good and evil, right and wrong, black and white.
This perception or perspective is indisputably true to my physical side, because ours is a universe polarized by opposing forces which create our physical survival of the fittest reality. Therefore, this physical aspect of me understands that I must constantly cast judgments upon these opposing forces. If I am to physically survive in this material dimension, I must constantly choose and act upon what seems right for me at the time.
By contrast, my Higher Self knows all that is in the physical dimension to be illusionary; that is, an illusion fed by the dueling opposites in a temporal material reality. My Higher Self thinks of this illusion as nothing more than distracting ground clutter. But my ego is bound up in fear, which makes it extremely difficult for my physical part to get beyond this ground clutter. Meanwhile, my Higher Self tells me that if I am ever going to completely accept Love as the only force in the universe, I must first distance myself from this ground clutter thinking
Thus, the message for me becomes:
1. Love is the one and only force in the universe;
2. Love is light, joy, fulfillment in oneness and, as such, is the Creator/God of the universe;
3. In Creation, Love is in singularity, an omnipresent, whole force, i.e., the force of God;
4. The universe is a temporal experience in duality (the dance of opposites), notwithstanding that it is still an idea and product of Creation.
5. Consequently, this apparent duality is not a true separation from Love, but rather a different and unfamiliar aspect of Love, which can cause the illusion of separation. In that illusion we can feel a shift which we perceive as a separation and distancing from Love and the wholeness and oneness of God/Creation. We perceive a shift into duality or dance of opposites requiring choice and judgment.
6. Therefore, duality, which is also the engine of evolution, is the illusion which tricks us into believing a separation between us and our Creator has occurred or is occurring. We can feel this separation deeply within our souls.
7. This feeling of separation from Creation and/or Love is the illusion that causes the perception we think of as fear. If we can hold the possibility, just for a moment, that Love is the only true emotion, then we may be able to contemplate that the pseudo emotion we think of as fear is not a true emotion at all, but rather a reaction to this illusion of being separated from Love. In other words, by succumbing to fear, we buy into the premise that universal duality is somehow separating us from love. It is a feeling that can immobilize us. It is an idea that can prevent us from fulfilling the adventure we came here to have.
Fear is not available in Creation. It only exists in the universe. Fear is the basis from which all the pseudo emotions and aspects of the human psyche issue. These are what we think of as feelings such as anger, revenge and hate. When we realize that there is nothing in the universe that can harm or destroy our spiritual being, then we can accept that fear is only a grand illusion. It is part of the illusion of the temporal existence we are helping create in the physical universe and, as such, a condition of physical life.
Paradoxically, it is the basic illusion we, as subjective Spiritual Beings, came into the universe to create for ourselves. At birth we come into this universe of duality directly from the oneness of the Creative forces. Our immediate experience is a sense of separation from that oneness. As we pass over the threshold into temporal reality, we are greeted with open arms by others who have come before us, that is, our parents, family, and community. Thus, our great adventure of life begins. Joseph Campbell calls it our heros journey. But the true catalyst for our journey into life is that our heros journey begins when we are in a completely helpless and vulnerable state as newborn infants. This is when we are still trying to figure out how to use our arms and legs and potty at the right time and place. As we are groping through the illusion of separation from of our Creators love, we reach out to the family and friends around us. We are desperately seeking to regain the love whichs seems to have slipped away from our being. They give us love, understanding, and wisdom; but we are also given their belief systems. Our blank hard drives are filled with their fears, anxieties, delusions, and lies. What a brave, powerful, magical, joyful adventure the journey of life is.
There are times when I can create some really scary dramas for myself. But, if I will take a moment to still the clutter around me and go within myself, in that moment, I can surround my darkest fears with the light of love and savor the excitement and mystery and the wondering- what is next? Then I start to remember who I am, and find myself recalling: I came to this beautiful universe to learn; to have fun and drink in and breathe out, and touch, and hear, and see, and taste; to savor the dance of life. In that dance fear has been my partner and is my teacher.
