Creating Abundant Health In 1998
(and Beyond!)
Early on many of us may have adopted the view that health is simply the absence of disease. This view leads us to take a problem-solving approach to health. Our focus is on relieving the intensity of unwanted symptoms, so the underlying problem remains and usually gets bigger over time. Unfortunately, this is the approach that our culture encourages.
Look at the millions of dollars spent on antacids, decongestants, and pain relievers each year. As time goes on, however, these products seem to lose their effectiveness. At some point we may get the news that our health problem has now developed into a life-threatening disease. At this stage we will probably make the emotionally-driven decision to turn the responsibility of our health over to someone else with the hope they can save our life. The negative inner feedback we give ourselves in these adverse situations can drain our system even more of the energy we need to heal ourselves.
Wow, these are not the kinds of future prospects anyone would choose. But we know this scenario is repeated all too often to comfortably push it out of our minds. But what can we do from our present situation? Without judging our past choices, we can decide to take a more creative approach to wellness. We can begin to see health as balance or harmony in the forces that support body and mind. The difference in the approaches is like focusing on the doughnut or the hole.
In taking a creative approach, the first question to ask yourself is: if you had the vitality you want, what would you do with it? Give yourself a reason to get healthy. Maybe you enjoy a sport or hobby, like to do some hiking or want to visit an exciting new place. At this point don't limit your creative potential by ruling out what you think is too unrealistic. Be honest, how do you know what you can create until you give it a go? Now decide your next step and begin to put your plan into action. Choose a proven holistic health system that takes your individuality into consideration. Of course, as an Ayurvedic practitioner, I am rather biased and favor Ayurveda. Remember, however, what is helpful for some people causes imbalances in others, so it has to be right for you to be effective.
Also, notice what happens when your actions are organized around doing what makes you happy. A holistic system knows when your internal feedback is positive, it supports your health with an energizing effect on your body.
During your journey, it's important to remember to see your current situation without judgment. See low energy simply as different than the vitality you want. Your health will change as you keep taking action steps to implement your plan.
A creative approach synergizes mind and body to move powerfully and effectively toward what you want to create. It will come as no surprise, however, that a creative shift in your approach to health will most likely cause similar changes in the way you approach your career and relationships!
Wishing you the best in 1998 and beyond!
