Dreams Become Reality Every Day On Internet
 by Marilyn Ellis

Remember that sending a rocket ship to the moon was once just a dream in someone's mind? Just like that dream became a reality, so do new dreams that no one ever thought would become real.

Every day, new businesses and new ways of doing business are coming into reality because of the Internet. Isn’t it nice to sit down to your web TV or computer, order something over the Internet, and have it shipped to you, without your having to leave your home, fight traffic and the crowds in the mall? The Internet is changing the way we are doing business every day.

For instance, you can buy and sell stock on the Internet. You can make your own decisions about what you will buy and sell. Because of the impact of this phenomenon, Merrill Lynch added Internet trading for consumers for a small fee. This is a sign that they recognize the power of the web and know that their market share could be diminished if they do not take action.

And, buying music on the Internet has the whole music industry in an uproar. A new artist can create a web site of his/her own, produce and sell music CDs to the public direct, without the middle man of the music industry.

And what about the future? Want to live on Mars? Look at http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/mgs/press/fifth-conf.html, and http://www.marssociety.org. You can email the Mars Society at  5thMars99@caltech.edu to see how you might plan to move to Mars. The prediction is that 200 years from now, 100 million earthlings will live on Mars. Scientist are talking about this, not soothsayers!

Much of this information is on public television, and I found out more by going to their web site at http://www.pbs.org.

Suppose you need a new liver, kidney, heart or bladder?  You can grow these organs now, in case you need them later by having a small amount of tissue from your existing organ sent to several different research facilities and hospitals I found by typing in “organ regeneration” in a search engine.

Marvelous things are coming our way with the new millennium, and so much more information can be found by cruising on the web. If you see it on television, you can visit the television station's or network's web site and find out where they pulled their data from, what their sources were. Then, you can type in any URL and follow a trail right to the source you saw on national TV. Using the tools in an integrated way is becoming the norm rather than the exception.

Excited? Then it’s time to go out and see what other dreams people have that they are making reality right now. If you find something great, send me the URL by email (see below).

What about our own dreams? Take a few minutes and write them down, and go an a “search mission” of your own out in cyberspace. You might be surprised at who is dreaming the same thing and what they are doing about it! And if you DO find your dream out there, email me and share with me what you found.

But suppose you can’t search the web yet? Then, email me and, if your subject is appropriate, I will do a little research for you, and send you back some information. You might even be reading about your questions in the Indigo Sun next month!

So, you have seen some of my dreams, let me see some of yours. You might be surprised to find out how close to reality your dreams really are, and how little it will take now to make your dreams real! Contact mellis@bayou.uh.edu.
