Ready to take the journey of your life? This
journey is about to begin and you have the opportunity to share this journey with me and
with others. The destination of our journey is wholeness, wellness, self-empowerment,
alignment, and integration, which will enable each of us to open with purpose just as our
world and all that grows within it opens with purpose as the season changes from winter to
spring. We have had the long rest of winter and now we are invigorated to begin a journey
which will lead us more deeply into our individual springs and discover at a deeper level
who we are, our uniqueness, our wonder and our glory. Join me as we develop the
stages of the hero(ine)s journey. Be prepared to move into a more
expanded level of consciousness as we move toward the Millennium.
The time is NOW! Prepare for Y2K!
The goal of the hero(ine)s journey is that of enabling us to
find meaning and purpose in our lives and in the life of the human community. The heroic
quest is about saying yes to yourself and in so doing becoming more fully alive and more
effective in the world, about finding the treasure of your true self, and then returning
home to give your gift to help transform the kingdom. It is through this journey that we
are able to be in or of service to others.
Heroism is not just about finding a new truth that I can live in oneness
that I have choices, but it is also about having the courage to act on that premise. Our
clearest models for this journey of heroism lie in a mythic pattern that revolves
around archetypes. Archetypes are universal energies that function as our inner
guides and are always available to us if we choose to access them.
Each of these universal energies is a part of our journey and shapes the way we look at
and interact with the world. When we are flexible and integrated each is available to
us, provides us with choices, and guides us on our journey to oneness.
We will look at the archetype of the Innocent in this article. It is both the beginning
and the end of our journey, for when we complete our journey we will be transformed
Innocents. The Innocent is one of the archetypal energies that is a part of the Ego
or the Personality. The archetypes that are a part of the Ego or Personality form
the container for our Soul, and it is through the Soul that we access Spirit.
Remember that each archetype allows us to develop our observer ego the part of us
that looks at you in truth and in love and provides us with choices, thus
supporting us as we move into our own power.
To determine where you are in relation to the energy of the Innocent, answer the following
with a yes or a no.
I feel safe.
I believe that people dont really mean to hurt each other.
The world is a safe place.
I assume that people I meet are trustworthy.
I can count on others to take care of me.
If these questions have a charge for you or if they evoke a strong response, you can
be reasonably sure that you are dealing with the part of you that is called The
Innocent.
This part of our journey begins in a kind of utopia, a safe, secure, peaceful loving
environment. Suddenly, we experience ourselves being thrown from that environment, and we
find ourselves in a world where we feel judged, where unfair discriminations are made,
where conflict and violence are rampant and our illusions are shattered. This fall is an
important event for us because it is our catalyst for change.
The transformed Innocent knows that safety is possible anywhere or anytime, even if we
personally do not remenber experiencing it, and it can be recreated sometime, by
someone, by us. It is through these energies that we access hope and faith.
When we begin our heroic journey, we begin it with childlike faith. We are filled with
optimism, excitement and an openness to the journey. This is the initial step of the
Innocent. We can also move into this archetype when we have a new love in our life
or a new business venture. But in the early stage of this archetypal pattern, what we are
looking for is a safe secure environment, a desire to be protected, as well as a need to
experience unconditional love.
To maintain this illusion of safety, we deny, repress, blame, conform, display irrational
optimism, and take risks. We do this because our dependent/independent polarity is stuck.
We are looking for safety outside of us, and we will distort our own reality to sustain
this fallacy. We may unquestionably accept whatever anyone or anything outside of us
says or does to maintain our illusion that something outside of us will keep us safe.
As we move through this archetype, we experience the fall we are
disillusioned, disappointed. If we choose to remain in our shadow, we will look outside of
us and blame something or someone else for our condition. (We also do this with God or
whatever it is that we call this force: Universal Consciousness, Innate Intelligence,
etc.). If we remain in the shadow, the place where we do not objectively
observe ourselves, we will repeat this pattern over and over again.
We will believe that something outside of us will take care of us and provide for us. As
we recognize this pattern, we will eventually take the fall, but retain faith and goodness
in adversity. We will look at our experience as an opportunity to learn about ourselves.
We will ask ourselves, where did I move into my own naive position of thinking this person
or this job or this class or this healer would fix me, would solve my problems, would tell
me what to do for the pain to go away?
When we can see each experience in this light, we will return to our Paradise which was
lost. This time we will be a wise, or wiser, Innocent. We will have trust and optimism
without denial, naivete, or dependence. We will have taken a step toward community
the state of Interdependence.
Developing our wise Innocent enables us to live at a level of truth which restores us to
wholeness. We have dreams and ideals, we hold on to these, recognizing that we
must willingly sacrifice and release our illusions so that we may grow and
learn.
Observe your Innocent as you move through the experiences of your life. How do you use or
abuse this universal energy on your path to wholeness?
Next month we will look at our Orphan the part of us that feels abandoned.
