The Science of Spiritual Healing Part III

by Shirley Williams

Spiritual healing is definitely not new. It has been around for many lifetimes. You could jump to a hasty conclusion and determine that we humans are either slow learners or are not capable of learning. And yet, this is exactly the way it is supposed to be.

As humans, we have evolved over a long period of time into what we are today. It is indeed a truth when we say that our todays are a result of the choices we have made in our yesterdays and that our tomorrows are a reflection of the choices we have made today. What is truly exhilarating is that there is a strong sense prevalent in many people that this is our chance to “get it” - to move to a new and greater level of consciousness.

What is apparent is that each choice I make today is important. This is a choice involving the things I do, feel, and think. For me to become aware of the choices I can make takes time as well as growth in my ability to concentrate and focus on me and my own processes and the impact I have on other people with whom I relate. But in the process, my whole self shifts into a new space that empowers me. Instead of sitting in my “victim” consciousness, I can move to a place of observation and ask how I got myself into this place (whatever it may be), and what I am supposed to learn about me. Then I am at a choice point and I can choose a course of action that either repeats my previous choices that got me where I am, or I can change - I can do something about it.

To accomplish this, I move to the place that is called soul or the witness or the observing ego. And from this position, I gradually become able to be in charge of me - to take responsibility for what I create. I find this an exciting and powerful place to be. If I do not like the space or circumstance I am in, I can change it. I can draw energy from the unmanifest of energy just as you can, and I can make my world a different place for me just as you can. My responsibility and your responsibility is to not infringe on other’s space or world to make our personal worlds more workable for us.

There are days and minutes when I and you are more successful in doing this. How we evaluate our ability to move forward in this process is the key to what we call spiritual healing. If we judge ourselves as wrong, we experience fear or guilt. These emotions are devastating to our overall health. Just as devastating is the opposite - not looking at ourselves and what we have created. Either approach creates disease in the body for our energy is distorted or blocked.

Spiritual healers are proficient in supporting you as you move to this place of personal power. In addition, they are skilled in managing their own energy fields and yours, enabling you to move to a different position in physical, emotional, and mental health. Spiritual healers are not a part of the current medical protocol nor are they universally accepted within the religious community.

While many of them are very skilled in the use of homeopathy and herbology in addition to their training in spirituality and energy work, they function at a very different level. They are adjuncts to the traditional world. As such their place is not always understood. Because I am a spiritual healer, I feel a sense of responsibility to add the clarity that I have at this time to what I see as a science of spirituality. This science has its laws and rules, its theories and hypotheses, just as any other science has. The validity of this science will be demonstrated over time just as other sciences have been validated over time. I find it tremendously exciting to be a member of this branch of science and to be able to share it with the students I teach.
