Discover how the spiritual wonder of Mystic Neptune may color the poetry of our lives now, and in the years to come.

Neptune

by Claire F. Shepard

On November 29, 1998 Neptune enters the energy field of Aquarius for the long term. Neptune entered Aquarius January 28, 1998, but will retrograde back into Capricorn this summer. The coming retrograde will no doubt bring completion to the process of Neptune’s transit through Capricorn which began back in 1984. Neptune, “The Great Dissolver,” has evoked both disillusionment and clarity concerning the structures in our lives and our images of authority (Capricorn).

Neptune in Capricorn has shown us the consequences of mistakes while revealing what most needs reformation in our society and in our lives. What a trip it has been. Neptune has sought to eliminate facades and dishonesty in power structures of the highest order. Welfare, as we have known it, disappears as religious leaders, politicians, military, and business people suffer failure and public embarrassment via Neptune’s relentless pursuit of deception. Much of what we once considered respectable, reliable, and beyond reproach has been tousled or toppled before our dazed amazement.

We’ve had our own personal revelations as well. The houses, planets, and relationships to natal Capricorn and to natal Neptune in our personal charts indicate how Neptune has made its presence known. Our illusions regarding permanence and solidity are forever altered, forcing us to delve inward in search of a new safety net, one closer to home. The dependable is no longer a sure thing as Neptune’s mystic surprises offer a new and purer perception of reality.

As Neptune makes its final retrograde through Capricorn this summer, the issues of Neptune in Capricorn will intensify. With this completion, grander forms will be sacrificed as more structures and public images take tumbles; as more of our tangibles dissipate to abstractions.

Neptune rules the patriarch and Neptune in Capricorn has worked to dissolve the patriarchal culture which began 3000 years ago. As Neptune moves forward, greater balance will be sought through the androgyny of Aquarius. Before androgyny, however, the scales must lean in the critical direction of the re-emerging feminine. As Neptune progresses into Aquarius, it will serve to demonstrate the true meaning of social equality in a way unknown to our planet. Neptune rules universal love versus the personal love/desire of Venus.

Many of us belong to the Neptune in Libra generation (1943-1956) with our starry-eyed expectations of partnership. Most have experienced sacrifices, delays, and denials around our ideals and our deepest longings. Some call this a “generation sacrifice,” the sacrifice of Neptune. The confusion many currently experience regarding relationship roles, priorities, and even identities is actually the positive prelude to a new order, an order we just can’t quite see yet.

As Neptune enters Aquarius it may call us to surrender to its divinity. It may require us to relinquish control by abandoning ourselves to embrace a new consciousness. As Neptune prepares us for a major paradigm shift in consciousness, it plays with our realities. To maintain our center we must form a love partnership with the self. Our capacity for self-sufficiency and emotional self-containment is paramount in meeting the coming changes. Only then can we extend the universal love of Neptune to our fellow creatures.

While it is true we cannot like everyone, Neptune asks that we love everyone. I’ve been thinking a lot about this principle lately. I call it “The Goddess Principle.” I’ve been thinking about it because I want it to be a large piece of my success in this life. The inspiration is here for all of us. Much of the time we forget to be present with life’s magic. We forget to notice life. We are only now beginning to feel the effects of the mystical aspects of January and February, 1997. They heralded the shift to universal understanding through galactic awareness, the shift from “me” to “we.”

Neptune’s transit through Aquarius takes place from 1998-2012. During this time we can expect Neptune’s hidden, mysterious forces to arouse our delicate senses and most outlandish and original potentials. Neptune in Aquarius will call our consciousness to unity, drawing us together for strength to effect social change.

In February 1998, Jupiter enters Pisces (ruler of Neptune) for one year. It promises to be a year of vast spiritual growth and a perfect prelude to Neptune’s entrance into the energy field of Aquarius. As Jupiter’s powers of expansion create opportunities to finish the business of Neptune in Capricorn, we’ll release outworn structures while being moved to grow, often in strange and incredible ways.

We can realize the completion of Neptune’s transit through Capricorn by trusting the highest authority, ourselves. We can stretch our capacity for love and creative inspiration beyond what we feel possible, if we believe. While Neptune requires surrender and sacrifice, it also bestows the glowing radiance of feelings and the ecstasy of ethereal visions.

Music, dance, and poetry, the abstract arts, are Neptune’s domain. For the journey ahead Neptune stimulates the divine source within us to lead us along our paths. As Neptune contrives to show us new realities and strain our limits of perception, we can flourish if we trust the ride. Neptune enhances our meditations and softens our sensibilities.

Neptune stirs our powers of surrender and our capacity for transcendence if we do our part.
